halloween

- mixed media depicting dreams -
"Halloween is an ancient druidic holiday, one the Celtic peoples have celebrated for millennia. It is the crack between the last golden rays of summer and the dark of winter; the delicately balanced tweak of the year before it is given over entirely to the dark; a time for the souls of the departed to squint, to peek and perhaps to travel through the gap. What could be more thrilling and worthy of celebration than that? It is a time to celebrate sweet bounty, as the harvest is brought in. It is a time of excitement and pleasure for children before the dark sets in. We should all celebrate that." - Jenny Colgan

welcome the teachers

- 2013 mixed media on canvas, 22 inches by 28 inches -

"Nothing ever goes away until it teaches us what we need to know."
- Pema Chödrön

I am constantly asking myself, what is the lesson here?

What have I forgotten?

I try to remind myself, that this person or this situation is my teacher.

I search for the blessings in disguise.

I find the sacred.  I find the beauty.  I find the humor.

This new series of mixed media on canvas is a celebration of spirit, a dance of freedom.  The series marks my return to canvas.  Each piece is a poem, a meditation, a prayer.

Lou Reed

She says, "Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side."
He said, "Hey honey, take a walk on the wild side."

“I’ve always believed that there’s an amazing number of things you can do through a rock ‘n’ roll song, and that you can do serious writing in a rock song if you can somehow do it without losing the beat. The things I’ve written about wouldn’t be considered a big deal if they appeared in a book or movie." - Lou Reed (1942-2013)

unique expression

- mixed media -
"There is a vitality, a life-force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and be lost."
- Martha Graham (1894-1991)

nourish dreams into realities

- a tiny corner of my world -
He asked me how I kept my dreams alive...

I give my dreams time and room to grow, stretch and develop. I go for walks and contemplate the sacredness of a stone, the miracle of a wildflower. I dance and dream. I laugh and cry with my dreams. My dreams keep me alive...truly alive...my dreams nourish and sustain me.

casimira wearable sculpture

- sneak peek detail from 2013 wearable sculpture -
"Inside water, a waterwheel turns. A star circulates with the moon. We live in the night ocean, wondering: what are these lights?" -RUMI

My pieces are more than adornment, so much more than a fashion trend or statement.  Each is a signed work of art - a wearable sculpture.  Like the human soul, no two are exactly the same - ever (not even limited editions).  Each piece is birthed one at a time, in a peaceful, meditative space within the United States.

Stay tuned for upcoming exhibits and trunk shows...I am in love with this new collection...it is all about the LIGHT within...

learning to love monday morning

- 2013 idea from a dream for a new series -
"six o'clock already,
I was just in the middle of a dream,
I was kissing Valentino,
by a crystal blue Italian stream...

it's just another manic Monday,
I wish it was Sunday,
'cause that's my fun day,
my I don't have to run day,
it's just another manic Monday...

all of the nights,
why did my lover have to pick last night,
to get down...
he tells me in his bedroom voice:
come on honey, let's go make some noise...

time it goes so fast,
when you're having fun...
it's just another manic Monday..." - The Bangles

I am learning to love my early Monday mornings - they hold infinite potential for the week ahead...

my personal mythology

- 2013 mixed media on canvas -
"Myth must be kept alive. The people who can keep it alive are artists of one kind or another. The function of the artist is the mythologization of the environment and the world."
- Joseph Campbell

I am completely in love with this series of mixed media on canvas paintings...I am looking forward to exhibiting them in a near future...

wild beauty, wild laughter, wild joy, wild dance, wild freedom, wild dreams...wishing you WILD MOMENTS throughout the day...and tonight, under the FULL MOON...

the universe: one verse, one song

"When you are consciously aware of your body and what it is telling you, the quality of intelligence is amplified.  Its reach is infinite.  While the human body performs countless physical processes, it tracks the movement of stars and planets, because your biological rhythms are actually the symphony of the whole universe.  That's why we call it the universe -- one verse, one song." - Deepak Chopra

how YOUNG do you feel today?

- moi -
"I'm not interested in age.
People who tell me their age are silly.
You're as old as you feel."

- Elizabeth Arden (1884 - 1966)

I believe we are all AGE-LESS.

At times I feel I am two thousand years old...wise and eternal, connected with both heaven and earth.

Other times, I feel I am a girl of four or five, wishing upon a star and skipping my way through life with laughter and careless joy.

How old do you feel today?

How YOUNG do you feel today?

ring of fire

- mixed media from ROMANCE series -
“I'm falling in love with somebody I have no right to fall in love with...I can't fall in love with this man, but it's just like a ring of fire.”
- June Carter Cash (1929-2003)

Love is a burning thing,
And it makes a fiery ring
Bound by wild desire
I fell into a ring of fire.

I fell into a burning ring of fire
I went down, down, down
And the flames went higher,
And it burns, burn, burns,
The ring of fire, the ring of fire.

The taste of love is sweet
When hearts like ours meet.
I fell for you like a child
Oh, but the fire ran wild.

meditation

- 2013 mixed media from "Words Make Love" collection -
"When we cultivate mystical awareness or transcendent identity - which is a natural outgrowth of meditation and other practices - what happens is that we begin to take a witness position on our own lives, and that includes our minds." - James Redfield

wholeness - she who heals

- mixed media from a series -
what needs to be healed in your life?

who do you need to forgive?

who needs to forgive you?

"She Who Heals:

Mother, sing me a song

That will ease my pain,

Mend broken bones,

Bring wholeness again.

Catch my babies

When they are born,

Sing my death song,

Teach me how to mourn.

Show me the Medicine

Of the healing herbs,

The value of spirit,

The way I can serve.

Mother, heal my heart

So that I can see

The gifts of yours

That can live through me."

- Jamie Sams

la lluvia no empapa a los que se pierden en el bosque de sus sueños relucientes

- mixed media on paper -
"Como a todas las muchachas del mundo,
también a Ella,
tejiéronla
con sus sueños,
los hombres que la amaban.

Y yo la amaba.

Pudo ser para otros un rostro
que el Viento del Olvido
borra a cada instante.
Pudo ser,
pero yo la amaba.

Yo veía las cosas más sencillas
volverse misteriosas
cuando Ella las tocaba.
Porque las estrellas de la noche
¡Ella con su mano las sembraba!

Los días de esmeralda,
los pájaros tranquilos,
los rocíos azules,
¡Ella los creaba!

Yo me emocionaba
con sólo verla pisar la hierba.

¡Ah si tus ojos me miraran todavía!

Esta noche no tendría tanta noche.
Esta noche la lluvia caería sin mojarme.

Porque la lluvia no empapa
a los que se pierden
en el bosque de sus sueños relucientes,
y sus días no terminan
y son sus noches transparentes.

¿Dónde estás ahora?
¿En qué ciudad,
en qué penumbra,
en cuál bosque
te desconocen las luciérnagas?

Tal vez mientras escribo,
estás en un suburbio,
sola, inerme, abandonada...

¡Abandonada, no!

En tu ausencia
mi corazón todas las tardes muere."

- Manuel Scorza (1928-1983)

time to be

- one of my journals with beach treasures, circa 2009, Montelimar Nicaragua -
what is happening?

what has happened?

take time to be in solitude

take time to be in silence

take time to be in sacredness
"This is what is strange - that friends, even passionate love, are not my real life unless there is time alone in which to discover what is happening or has happened."
- May Sarton
take time to BE...

dreaming again with you

- 2013 mixed media from "Words Make Love" collection -
At some point in my life I shall live on the beach...

I shall become the queen of the mermaids dressed in shipwrecked silks and endless pearl strands.

I shall dance barefoot under moonlight, to the rhythm of heartbeats and waves...

I shall taste salty kisses and write love letters to the sun.

I shall paint the stars with watercolor words.

...and you my dear are invited to join me...

from my journals, originally posted in June of this year

I have been having consecutive dreams of the beach...something is calling me to the ocean...

Monday, October 7

cordially invited to my dream

- excuse me, while I kiss the sky -
"Understand, I'll slip quietly
away from the noisy crowd
when I see the pale
stars rising, blooming, over the oaks.

I'll pursue solitary pathways
through the pale twilit meadows,
with only this one dream:
You come too.
- Ranier Maria Rilke

Sunday, October 6

free again

- detail from one of my journals -

"Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am home again
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am whole again

Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am young again
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am fun again

However far away
I will always love you
However long I stay
I will always love you
Whatever words I say
I will always love you
I will always love you

Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am free again
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am clean again

However far away
I will always love you..." - THE CURE

sacred circle

- one of my sculptures suspended from natural gemstones and silks -
As the music started, the sun began to blush while the wind continued to breathe. One by one, they slowly emerged from the depths of the earth. Moving with rhythms of nature, the goddesses created a sacred circle and danced in beauty and dreams.

new moon in Libra tonight

- painted silk, circa 2005 -
how to let go of a dream?

how to surrender a love that was perhaps never meant to materialize?

how to accept what is and what is not?

"...It's hard to say.
Separate or combine, I ask you one last time:
Did I hold you too tight?
Did I not let enough light in?

If a feeling appears, if your mind should sway,
It's not a secret you should keep,
I won't let you slip away.

We used to be closer than this...
We used to be closer than this...
Is it something you miss?

Winged or chained,
I ask you,
Would you have stayed?" - XX

I woke up with this song in my mind, perhaps from my dreams.

Tonight's NEW MOON in LIBRA feels particularly powerful...

squeezing drops of the sun

- 2013 mixed media on canvas from a new series where I explore painting as poetry and meditation -
"Keep squeezing drops of the Sun
from your prayers and work and music
and from your companion's beautiful laughter.

Keep squeezing drops of the Sun
from the sacred hands and glance of your Beloved
and, my dear,
from the most insignificant movements
of your own holy body."
- HAFIZ

El Poeta Carpintero - Raúl Xavier García

- my friend modeling one of my wearable sculptures -

“Quisiera ser el dueño de la serenidad de tus ojos, y oír hasta el fin de mis días la eternidad del silencio.  A lo único que le temo es la peligrosidad de tu ausencia, no el precipicio invencible cuando nace o muero.  Y yo soy e pájaro de los sueños…”
- El Poeta Carpintero, Raúl Xavier García (1931-2013)
