on my mind

- 2008 mixed media -
"Somebody's on my mind
Like an old sweet song, "The Lasting Time"
Somebody's on my mind
So I'm walking on clouds on a silver line
To dream my dream could be my mistake
But I'd rather be wrong
And sleep right along than wake
Love may be blind I'll take my chances
That it cares this affair, my real romance
That's why you'll find somebody's on my mind"

- Billie Holiday (1915 – 1959)

cuando tardas y demoras

- mixed media -

april in paris - why not? let's go...

"April in Paris,
chestnuts in blossom,
holiday tables under the trees...
April in Paris,
this is the feeling,
no one can ever reprise,
I never knew the charm of spring...
I never met it face to face...
I never new my heart could sing...
never missed a warm embrace...
till April in Paris,
whom can I run to?
what have you done to my heart? "
- E.Y. Harburg / Vernon Duke (circa 1933)

new born life, love & peace

And life and love and peace are all new born."

pueblo blessing

Hold on to what is good even if it is a handful of earth.

Hold on to what you believe even if it is a tree which stands by itself.

Hold on to what you must do even if it is a long way from here.

Hold on to life even when it is easier letting go.

Hold on to my hand even when I have gone away from you.

re-birth

- 2007 mixed media from my journals -
Little Bird hatched from Mother’s ancient crystals with a precious gem balanced upon its beak.

“Why am I here?” Little Bird asked Water Buddha.

Little Bird, you are here to live.
To breathe and to fly.
To laugh and to cry.
Little Bird, you are here to die.

“To die? But have I not just now begun to live? I do not understand,” Little Bird cried.

Little Bird, life would not exist without death.
And really, death is but re-birth.
Little Bird, you have always been and shall always be.

poetic thoughts

- 2008 mixed media -
Don't tell me women
are not the stuff of heroes,
I alone rode over the East Sea's
winds for ten thousand leagues.
My poetic thoughts ever expand,
like a sail between ocean and heaven.
I dreamed of your three islands,
all gems, all dazzling with moonlight.
I grieve to think of the bronze camels,
guardians of China, lost in thorns.
Ashamed, I have done nothing;
not one victory to my name.
I simply make my war horse sweat.
Grieving over my native land
hurts my heart. So tell me;
how can I spend these days here?
A guest enjoying your spring winds?

- Qiū Jǐn (1875-1907)
translated by Zachary Jean Chartkoff
A writer. A poet. A feminist. A revolutionary. A hero.
She believed and fought for FREEDOM, for women's rights to marry, to be educated, to be free of bound feet...

a kiss like melting snow

"How did it happen that their lips came together? How does it happen that birds sing, that snow melts, that the rose unfolds, that the dawn whitens behind the stark shapes of trees on the quivering summit of the hill? A kiss, and all was said." - Victor Hugo

every little thing

- my desk -
"Though I've tried before to tell her,
Of the feelings I have for her in my heart,
Every time that I come near her,
I just lose my nerve as I've done from the start,

Every little thing she does is magic,
Everything she does just turns me on,
Even though my life before was tragic,
Now I know my love for her goes on,

Do I have to tell the story,
Of a thousand rainy days since we first met?
It's a big enough umbrella,
But it's always me that ends up getting wet,

Every little thing she does is magic,
Everything she does just turns me on,
Even though my life before was tragic,
Now I know my love for her goes on,

I resolved to call her up,
A thousand times a day,
Ask her if she'll marry me,
In some old fashioned way,

But my silent fears have gripped me,
Long before I reach the phone,
Long before my tongue has tripped me,
Must I always be alone..." - STING

only breath

- mixed media from my journals -

"...My place is placeless, a trace of the traceless.
Neither body or soul.
I belong to the beloved, have seen the two worlds as one and that one call to and know, first, last, outer, inner, only that breath breathing human being." - RUMI

waves

my body moves in waves,
when I dance...even when I walk,
waves of laughter...waves of surrender...waves of waves

"I love waves; I wish I had some in my hair. My daddy did, but I guess I didn't dive into that end of the gene pool. Virginia Woolf wrote my favorite book, The Waves, and I have a son who surfs them. I danced a thousand dances to Patti Smith's song "Wave" and I've waved a thousand good-byes. I've seen waves come and take my house, flood the same bedroom where they accompanied countless nights of lovemaking. I have ridden the waves of labor, of sorrow, and of bliss."

spring equinox

- 2013 mixed media from series -
She stirs.
She moans lightly with delight.
Her lips curve up into a smile.
Her eyes begin to open.
She is waking up.
Mother Nature is waking up and giving us Spring.

more

- mixed media -
“I want to see you. Know your voice. Recognize you when you first come 'round the corner. Sense your scent when I come into a room you've just left. Know the lift of your heel, the glide of your foot. Become familiar with the way you purse your lips then let them part, just the slightest bit, when I lean in to your space and kiss you. I want to know the joy of how you whisper "more”... - RUMI
